Japan

I wanted to visit Japan for a while and i wanted to share some of the reasons, because of all the yummy looking food to see Tokyo the cherry blossom trees the cool places and to see if they had any anime figures.

Facts:
They have this really cool festival  called Yuki Matsuri, Snow Festival (Sapporo) it's like it says it's popular festival.
Ancient warriors of Japan were known as Samurai. They were very skilled fighters and swordsmen. Their main weapon was the Katana a slight curve of the sharp blade.
Japan is home to many different forms of martial arts. Karate, Judo, Sumo, Ninjutsu, Kendo and more.

Hi Serenity,

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey programme! I am really excited to see that you've posted a blog about Japan. I really love the country! I actually had the chance to live in Japan for a year teaching English and I loved it. It was so different from my home country of Canada!

My favourite thing to do in Japan was to visit the local temples. They were beautiful and very unique. We had a large temple (shrine) in Nagano City where I lived and I went up to a service on New Years Eve at Togakushi temple. It was freezing! The temperature in Nagano was -5 degrees on New Years and it was just as cold inside the temple as it was outside! It is a New Years Eve that I will never forget!

Over the past few years I have shown my son (Aronui) some of my pictures from Japan and he has decided to start training in Kendo. As you mentioned,it's a popular martial art in Japan. Have you ever tried it? Aronui loves it! He is only 6 so he's just started but I think that he will stick with it for years to come!

I hope that you'll continue to stick with the blogging programme. We are sooooo excited to blog with you and can't wait to read what you blog about next!

Wishing you and your family a lovely new years eve and a happy and safe start to 2017!

All the best,

Rachel :)

Kia ora Serenity,

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey! We are so happy to have you on board with us, and I'm looking forward to reading your blogs through your journey to Japan.

My name is Dan, and I'm working alongside Rachel and Mark over the summer. I'm lucky enough to be able to read your blogs and I'll be leaving comments as I go. If you want to reply to my comments then please do! I'd love to know what you think, or if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

I'm so happy you chose to visit Japan for your learning journey! It is such an interesting country to visit. I really enjoyed your reasons for wanting to visit too, Japanese food is some of my favourite food!

If you went to Japan, which anime figures would you want to find? Anime is a fascinating part of Japanese culture. Plus the blossom trees would be beautiful to see. Do you know what time of the year they blossom?

Great fact hunting Serenity! I never knew about Japan's snow festival? A couple of my friends have gone to Japan for their snow, and they absolutely loved it. I think a snow festival would be so much fun!

Japan will be an incredible country for your learning journey and I am looking forward to reading (and learning) all of your blogs over the next few weeks. Make sure you keep up your fantastic blogging!

Happy holidays Serenity,
Dan.

second question about the cherry blossom trees
On Japan's southern, subtropical islands of Okinawa, cherry blossoms open as early as January, while on the northern island of Hokkaido, they bloom as late as May. In most major cities in between, including Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, the cherry blossom season typically takes place in early April

Happy New Year Serenity!

I hope you have had a wonderful holiday and Christmas with friends and family. It looks like I have quite a few blogs of yours to catch up on, well done!

Thank you for answering my questions. It sure sounds like you would be busy in Japan with all of your anime figures to find. I don't know too much about anime, so I'm looking forward to learning off you :-)

Thank you as well for finding out when the cherry blossoms happen in Japan too. I will have to go and see them one day I think, it sounds beautiful!

Keep up the great work, and enjoy the rest of your holidays Serenity.

Until next time :-)
Dan.
